I recently participated in the first-ever TWTRCON event held in San Francisco on May 31, 2009, just a stone’s throw away from Twitter headquarters. It was quite an experience with celebrities, innovators, venture capitalists and business people talking about all things Twitter and social media trends in general.
Congratulations to Modern Media and all participants (in-person and virtually) for making this an exceptional conference with tweets reaching #1 on Twitter’s “Trending Topics.” This indigenous meter may not be significant to some people, but clearly a large group of people worldwide on a Sunday in May were plugged into #twtrcon, and these conversations were right up there with the French Open and other hot topics of the day.
With my laptop and video camera fired up front and center, I was able to record (45) one-to-three minute video clips of various speakers (see videos below), and wrote notes that covered four main themes:
1) How to use Twitter today.
2) What’s unclear and/or controversial about Twitter?
3) Can Twitter revolutionize the way we communicate and do business, worldwide?
4) Does Twitter have a bright future, and if so, what does it look like (i.e. business model, cost, ecosystem, services, etc.)?
How to use Twitter today.
Take a look at Laura Fitton’s 148-slide PowerPoint on SlideShare from her keynote presentation at TWTRCON, "Twitter for Business: 101". Laura’s presentation covers a lot of ground in terms of Twitter for business background, strategy, use cases and recommendations; all for free.
What’s unclear and/or controversial about Twitter?
Guy Kawasaki from Alltop was in the hot-seat during his interview with Gina Smith, and Al Gore was top of mind. In video clips 1 and 2 below, Guy talks with Gina about a number of relevant issues including:
-
The essence of Twitter as a marketing tool
-
Spam and spammers on Twitter
-
Ghost writing Tweets; acceptable or not?
Tune in and watch these exclusive clips; just over 6 minutes total. What do you think about the issues discussed? Share your thoughts in the Comments area below.
