| Mail Server |
A computer used to send and receive email. End users typically don't run their own mail servers - they send their email to a mail server run by their ISP.

A group of email addresses (with or without additional information such as the subscribers' names) to which specific mailings are sent.

| Manual Submission |
The process of submitting Web sites or Web pages to search engines and directories for inclusion in their databases using specific guidelines unique to each index.

| Meta Search Engine |
A server that passes queries on to many search engines and directories, and then summarizes the results. Ask Jeeves, Dog pile, Met crawler, Met find and Met search are examples of meta search engines.

| Meta Tag |
A code within the HTML header that contains information such as keywords and descriptions about the Web page specifically for Web crawlers or search engine robots/spiders. Normally it is not visible to the viewer.

| Metadata | Most simply, data that describe other data. In regards to a Web site, metadata is information about a specific Web page -mainly the title, descriptions, and defined keywords, and may also include abstracts and other pertinent Web site information. |

Keywords or phrases that describe data on a Web page and are chosen to optimize the page for search engines.
